GI Masterclass: Advanced Perspectives in Gastrointestinal Health
Host Genetics | H pylori | Intestinal Permeability
In-person event | Copenhagen

The gastrointestinal system is central to immune balance, metabolic regulation, and overall vitality, yet disruptions often remain unnoticed until systemic symptoms emerge. This one-day intensive explores Helicobacter pylori infection dynamics and eradication strategies within an integrative framework, alongside a detailed examination of intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”), including immune-mediated, microbiome-associated, metabolic and genetically influenced patterns.

The training goes beyond the basics, exploring how combining host genetic insights with functional microbiome investigations can elevate precision in gut health assessment and intervention. With growing recognition of host-genetic variability in gut function, using the DNA Gut profile, we will also examine how polymorphisms affecting mucosal integrity, immune signaling, detoxification, and microbial interactions can predispose individuals to gastrointestinal dysfunction and influence clinical outcomes.

Participants will gain clinical insights into:
- Mechanistic models of mucosal barrier breakdown and repair, including genetic susceptibility factors
- Distinguishing functional drivers of intestinal permeability and how genetic variations may modify presentation and treatment response
- Interpretation of advanced stool and genetic testing in the context of host-microbiome-genetic interactions
- Evidence-informed treatment strategies to address H pylori, restore barrier integrity, modulate microbial balance, and personalise interventions based on genetic and functional findings

Our educator: Virginia Wood BSc (Hons) MSc AN, Head of Clinical Support at Nordic Laboratories and Nutritional Therapist
Virginia has a passion for the power of functional medicine, functional testing and the role these play in health optimisation. She began her career in paramedicine before transitioning to functional medicine over a decade ago. She holds a BSc (Hons) Nutritional Therapy degree with a further Masters in a specialised branch of Nutrition. Over the span of her functional medicine career, she has worked in integrative clinical practice, in tertiary education and most recently in a lead clinical specialism role with Nordic Laboratories and dnalife. She has a wealth of experience and practical knowledge in the interpretation of both functional and genetic tests, having supported hundreds of practitioners with their patients’ test results.
